The
western edge of Mare Tranquillitatis (Sea of Tranquillity).
Perhaps the most prominent feature in this image are the wrinkled
ridges across the dark "sea". The crater in the center is called
Arago. Named for Dominique F. J. Arago, a French astronomer who
lived from 1786 - 1853, it measures 26 km (16 miles) in diameter.
The nearly twin craters at the lower left edge of the image are called
Ritter (top) and Sabine. Unfortunately, the Apollo 11 landing
site is just below the bottom-center of this image. However, the
tiny crater just left of the bottom-center is named after Edwin "Buzz"
Aldrin.
